History
1954

It began with an idea: to produce moccasins, the traditional, comfortable footwear of the North American Indians - for people in this country. The "Walheimer Schuhfabrik" was established near the city of Ludwigsburg, situated in the Southern German region of Baden-Württemberg. The manufacturing of ladies' and men's moccasins began, and straight from the start SIOUX enjoyed a good reputation as a quality brand within the German shoe trade.
1956

As a registered trademark, the idea becomes a real brand.
1957

The "Autoped“- the first shoe concept particularly for motorists.
 
1958

The "Intarsia“ with the innovative outsole with rubber naps launched. It serves as a model for many shoe manufacturers.
1964

SIOUX develops the naturally shaped "Grasshopper" for ladies, men and children and finally makes the big international break-through. Over 10 million pairs of this type were sold world-wide.

1970

The English shoe manufacturer “Clarks“ acquires the licence for “Grashopper” from Sioux and sells the style under its own name.
1972

Top athletes go for top shoes. For the first time, Sioux becomes the official outfitter of the German Olympic team and still is to this day. German Olympic athletes will also rely on Sioux in London in 2012.
1979

Of extreme public interest: Sioux celebrates 25 years of success. Lothar Späth - at that time the Premier of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, delivers the official speech.
1994

With a big brand relaunch, Sioux calls attention via advertisement and posters. Native Americans are sympathetic protagonists who convey values Sioux stands for.

1997

Sioux is the first shoe manufacturer to be fully certified for the quality criteria development, production and distribution. (DIN EN ISO 9001).
1998

SIOUX take over the responsibility for Apollo. The brand is completely relaunched. With a new concept "Back to the Classics" emphasizing the core values of the Apollo brand, Apollo re-enters the market. SIOUX made Apollo again the classical men's shoe of excellent bench-made shoemaker's tradition.
1999

Together with the GPP advertising agency Sioux is given the "Silver Effie", an extraordinary award for efficient and creative promotion. Within short time Sioux increases the degree of familiarity by 18 % and the acceptance to buy by 31 %.

To ensure both the quantity and quality, the production site in Portugal is extended.
2000

Contemporary motifs give the protagonists in the advertising a more up-to-date look which attracts new target groups.
2002

The German Shoe and Leather Goods Award 2002 is given to SIOUX. The SIOUX designer team convinced the panel of experts of the Rheinland-Pfalz German region who made their choice based on creativity, quality and functionality.

2004

Half a century with a great number of shoe developments set the direction for "Naturform" styles such as Grashopper, Slopper and Outsider which are now enjoying cult status. The introduction of the moccasin made Sioux a pioneer of casual fashion in Germany. So the "Walheimer Schuhschmiede" with all their energy and know-how will carry on creating dateless values in up-to-date outfit.
50 Years Sioux - and everything remains different.
2006

Sioux is awarded the certificate "Partner of the Specialized Trade 2006" for segment "men's footwear" according to a survey made by German trade press. This award is presented to shoe manufacturers with constant and extraordinary performance.

In the "ladies' footwear" segment Sioux scored a marvellous 6th place among 34 brands evaluated in this survey.

2007

Since Spring/Summer 2007 season, Sioux manufactures JOOP! footwear.
The design and development of the shoe collection is effected in close cooperation with the JOOP! apparel and accessories team. The credo: Decades of manufacturing competence combined with Lifestyle-Image.

2009

Sioux is again the winner of the German Shoe and Leather goods Prize for Men’s shoes. The prize comprises the innovative “Easy Going”-concept consisting of men’s and ladies’ shoes.
2010

Sioux LLC is taken over by private investors under the umbrella of Square Four Investments and thus becomes again a family enterprise.

2012

Sioux celebrates the 40th anniversary as the official outfitter of the German Olympic team. Ever since the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, Sioux has accompanied the German Olympic athletes at every turn
