FOOT AILMENTS – JUST AN ISSUE THAT AFFECTS WOMEN?

It is a fact that women are nine times more likely than men to suffer from foot ailments. Why is this so? There are two things that really stress the feet: shoes with high heels and shoes which are too small. Both unfortunately overwhelmingly effect women, who are particularly being prone to wearing shoes which are too small. Women tend to be more concerned than men with the appearance of the shoe and are therefore more prepared to make concessions when it comes to choosing footwear. It is also perhaps the case that women have a higher pain tolerance, and therefore are more likely to wear shoes which may be slightly uncomfortable or have an incorrect fit in comparison to their male counterparts. Another thing which adds to this are the anatomical differences between males and females – namely that the muscles, tendons, and even hormonal factors are more pronounced in women’s feet than men, meaning that misalignments will lead to chronic conditions more quickly. As a result, foot complaints are experienced more commonly by women than men. Men are catching up, when it comes to these issues, however: in our Sioux stores, we are experiencing an increasing number of requests for foot care advice from men.
