The traditional tannery Oehler is located in the immediate neighborhood of Sioux. The family- owned company has been operating the leather factory since 1823, is now in the 6th generation and one of the last remaining German tanneries.

It is the mixture of tradition and progress which connects this company with Sioux. Above all, it is the mutual claim for the high quality of the leather materials. The focus here is on hydrophobic suede, which is ideally suited for the premium shoe collections of Sioux.

The specialty is in the leather itself: it is hydrophobic. The leather acquires its water-repellent characteristics during the tanning process. Since the material possesses this feature, it doesn’t absorb moisture, dries faster and thus provides a better heat regulation in the shoe.

Hydrophobic leather shoes are also visually appealing. Firstly, the leather is protected against watermarks and stains because water drips off the surface. Secondly, these leathers are lightfast. This means the leather color is protected against fading and you can enjoy color-intense shoes for a long time.

The distinct advantages lie in the care of suede shoes: Shoe polishing grouches will be happy because the leather is easier to care for since dirt cannot penetrate the material. In addition, the leather does not soak through so quickly and retains its shape longer. What also keeps the hydrophobic leather supple and young: It does not dry out as quickly. This means it is better protected against leather cracks and premature aging.
